Consultations
The Best Start Resource Centre provides information
and consultations in English and French across Ontario on a wide
range of topics to service providers who work with expectant parents
and young families. Topics range from health before pregnancy, pregnancy
(examples: alcohol use during pregnancy, men’s reproductive
health, etc.), maternal health (examples: post-partum depression,
breastfeeding, etc.) and issues related to child health (examples:
shaken baby syndrome, infant sleep environment, physical activity
and the early years, etc.). Within Ontario, there is no cost for
these services.
Consultations by phone or e-mail
For immediate support, consultants provide services
free of charge by phone or email to link you to resources, problem-solve,
discuss strategies and approaches, review action plans or funding
proposals, or comment on draft resources. To access these services,
please contact one of our consultants.
On-site consultations
On-site consultations are intensive, in-depth
sessions that can help you work on a specific issue. Content and
timing are tailored to meet your needs. Basic consultations will
increase your knowledge about current research and implications
and help you consider and select effective strategies. Advanced
consultations are designed to assist you in developing plans, designing
initiatives, building partnerships, problem solving, etc. The Resource
Centre covers some costs related to on-site consultants. The Best Start Resource Centre covers some costs related to on-site consultations. These on-site consultations need to be scheduled in advance.

The Best Start Resource Centre reviews requests for On-site Consultations every 6 months and decisions are made within 4 weeks of the deadlines. Our usual deadlines for submission are June 1st and December 1st.
