Free Training for LGBTQ Service Providers from Among Friends

Do you work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or Queer Newcomers? Are you looking for training and resources, opportunities to network? Among Friends is offering free training for service providers in Toronto. Module 1 is July 16th, July 23rd or July 27th 1-4pm (these are all the same session) and it will provide an introduction to working with LGBTQ newcomers. Participants will begin to understand the complexity of the LGBTQ newcomer experience, as well as identify barriers, learn terms and tools for self-reflection. Module 2 is August 13th, August 20th or August 27th, 1-4pm (these are all the same session) and it will be about "Pushing Boundaries: Creating Positive Spaces for LGBTQ newcomers". Participants will discuss the importance of organizational support and how they can transform their organizations to be inclusive of marginalized people.

Trends in sexuality change over the years and adults can often be left at a loss for understanding the needs of their students. This one day intensive workshop will explore new trends in sexuality and provide teachers with accurate information on some of the risks involved in adolescent sexuality as well as allow teachers to become more familiar with these issues and more comfortable presenting sex education materials to their students Participants will be given practical tools to teach this subject to grade levels 7-11, although discussion and exercises may be modified for elementary levels as well. Topics include; Anatomy, understanding adolescent sexual behaviors, current trends with teens, STI Information, birth control and condom information, how to answer difficult questions, and tools for teaching.
