This webinar is designed for service providers who offer reproductive health services to newcomer women (public health and community health nurses, obstetricians, family physicians, obstetrics hospital staff, health promoters, social workers, midwives, etc.).  The content has been adapted for service providers working in northern and rural areas, where newcomers may be a small minority and services to immigrants less readily available.

The objectives of this workshop are to:

  • Increase knowledge of the beliefs and practices of newcomer women.
  • Provide strategies to help newcomer women and their families understand Ontario health practices.
  • Discuss strategies that can be used by service providers, within their organizational mandate, to accommodate the needs of newcomer women and their families.
  • Help connect northern and rural service providers to key organizations.

The resource Giving Birth in a New Land – Strategies for Newcomer Women Working with Newcomer Women will be mailed to participants prior to the workshop.
The $10 registration fee includes the manual.

A toll-free number will be provided to participants to call in. Participants should have access to a phone line and a computer with internet access for the webinar.
