The proportion of women over
age 35 in prenatal, medical and obstetrical services has increased
significantly over the past 30 years. This demographic change
has important implications to service providers who work with
women before and during pregnancy, and to the health care
system. This workshop focuses on statistical trends, social
context, health risks, health opportunities and service provider
strategies. The information is applicable to a range of services
including preconception and prenatal care, prenatal classes
and drop-in programs for pregnant women.
This workshop is for service
providers who work with women who are pregnant or planning
a pregnancy, including public health nurses, nutritionists,
mental health workers, genetic counsellors, occupational health
nurses, doulas, prenatal educators, midwives, physicians and
nurses.
