Ontario Alcohol and Pregnancy Awareness Materials and Strategies:
Just found out you're pregnant?
It's never too late to get the facts about alcohol and pregnancy

Materials released March 31, 2008

Development Process

The Prevention Working Group of FASD Stakeholders of Ontario involves key staff from Motherisk, Mothercraft (Breaking the Cycle), Best Start Resource Centre , AWARE, Union of Ontario Indians, Porcupine Health Unit and Jane Hoy Initiatives. All of these individuals and organizations provided expert input and guided the development of these materials.

In addition, the materials were focus tested with women who were pregnant or recently had a baby in the communities of Kingston, Toronto, North Bay and Timmins. A total of 34 individuals participated in the focus testing. Their input was used to refine the images, tone, wording, colours and design of the materials. The focus groups were presented with 4 design concepts.

As a result of the focus group input, the Main Concept (hand holding a pregnancy test) was selected as the foundation for the materials that are available electronically, in print, and in mall and transit ads across Ontario. There was sufficient interest in the Alternate Concept (a woman holding a pregnancy test) that the working group decided to make materials using this concept available electronically, for those who wished to print their own materials.

All of these alcohol and pregnancy materials are available in French and English.

Focus test report in PDF.
